A ZeroShop Store Loads Before the Competition Finishes Thinking

Speed isn't a vanity metric in eCommerce. It's revenue. Every additional second a storefront takes to load bleeds conversions, pushes shoppers toward the back button, and quietly drags down search rankings. So we did the obvious thing: we put a ZeroShop store head-to-head against two real competitors on GTmetrix — the industry-standard performance benchmark — and let the numbers talk.

The result wasn't close.

The Lineup

We compared three live bakery storefronts, each on a different platform:

  • Tortivega (tortivega.com) — built on ZeroShop
  • mabaker.bg — built on WooCommerce
  • 100gramasladki.com — built on Barsy.bg, a self-built commerce solution

All three were tested under identical conditions: same GTmetrix test server in London, same Chrome browser, within minutes of each other.

ZeroShop didn't just win on aggregate grade — it took first place on every single speed metric that matters.

What These Numbers Actually Mean

A perfect 100% Performance Score. This is the headline figure GTmetrix derives from Google's Core Web Vitals. WooCommerce managed 66%. Barsy came close at 98%. ZeroShop hit the ceiling.

Largest Contentful Paint of 648ms. LCP measures how long it takes for the main content of a page to appear — the single most important loading metric for perceived speed. ZeroShop renders its main content in roughly two-thirds of a second. The WooCommerce store took 3.4 seconds — over five times slower. That's the difference between a shopper who stays and a shopper who's already gone. Google considers anything under 2.5s "good"; WooCommerce missed that bar outright.

Total Blocking Time of 21ms. TBT measures how long the page is frozen and unresponsive while scripts execute. ZeroShop's 21ms is effectively instant. WooCommerce's 247ms means a quarter-second where taps and clicks simply don't register — the kind of jank that makes a site feel broken.

Zero Cumulative Layout Shift. CLS measures how much the page jumps around as it loads — the maddening experience of going to tap a button just as it shifts out from under your finger. ZeroShop scored a clean 0. Nothing moves. Nothing surprises the shopper.

22 requests versus 124. This is the cleanest illustration of architecture. To load its page, the WooCommerce store fired off 124 separate network requests — a tangle of plugins, scripts, and stylesheets each demanding their own round-trip. ZeroShop did the same job in 22. Fewer requests means less to download, less to block, less to break, and a far lighter load on every device that visits.

Why ZeroShop Is Built This Way

The gap isn't an accident, and it isn't because the other stores were poorly maintained. It's structural.

WooCommerce is a plugin bolted onto a general-purpose blogging engine. Every feature is another plugin, every plugin is more scripts, and the request count climbs until the browser is drowning — 124 requests is the visible symptom of that model. Self-built solutions like Barsy can perform well, as 100gramasladki's solid 94% shows, but matching ZeroShop's numbers takes constant hand-tuning that most merchants can't sustain.
